Now's when the bigs need to be ready. I think Stevens will zero in on backcourt defense. Get Johnson and Van Wijk the ball.

You have to give our guys credit for getting back within 5. Bad time for Hahn to wake up.

I've not been watching the whole game, wife's birthday. But, funny how different our perspectives are!
Some awful turnovers, for sure. But, hey, we were within five there for a moment!

Why we're not trying to get the post dump-downs going is beyond me. Higher-percentage shots, guys. Their bigs are in foul trouble. Pound it inside.

Quite a late foul... For a moment there I thought we weren't _going_ to foul...

Ehh, we caught Butler on an off day and still they win pretty easily. Too bad. Youngstown just got hammered by 30 against Loyola; they might be primed to give us a fight Friday.

Take what you saw in the last minute - fouling late in the clock, turning the ball over, committing an intentional foul for no reason, and making Van Zant look like a good player - and multiply it by 40.

Harris sure gave us a lift in the 2nd half. My notes have him for 14 pts in about 10 minute stretch from 15:00 to 5:00 in 2h. Not quite sure why Homer took him out at the timeout. You gotta ride the hot hand. Butler just has too many weapons. The Smith kid is really coming on strong for them. He adds yet another dimension...keeps Howard out of foul trouble and lets him roam a little offensively. Howard and Mack....outstanding duo. Nored and VZ are great defenders...and then Hahn buries those 3pointers. We showed flashes today, but so much of that was based on Jay Harris being unconscious for 10 minutes. If this is where this kid is heading...we have a real offensive threat. Not a bad effort, the zone really worked for awhile. The key was to deny the high post pass. lowposter

Certainly disappointing effort, especially in the first 10 minutes and to start the second half, but we hung in there for quite a while.....we need to get more shots for Broekhoff...why we don't is beyond me....but besides that, Butler's MVP is Ronald Nored. He controls the game, scores when needed and plays great defense. He really was the biggest difference player-wise today. He does much more for them than the stats reflect. We need our point guards to get like that...total effort all the time.

Misc. comments:
In his post game conversation with Bryce, Todd noted that Nored was a huge factor in the outcome. Bryce responded that he "arm bars" and "pushes" very well. I couldn't tell if was giving a sincere compliment or a backhanded one.
Bryce also noted that Jay Harris once hit 11-14 3-pointers in a high school game last year. Kudos to him for a great offensive spurt at a crucial time in the game!
We still need to get that first signature win, but I don't think we're that far away. If we do nothing more than clean up the careless turnovers, missed layups, and missed free throws, we'll be in every game from now to the end of the season.

Unfortunately we've been doing those things all year. We should have gotten those problems resolved around mid November.

I sure don't know who the new guy is but obviously he wasn't watching the same game I was. Caught Butler on an off day? Check the stats. They made 19 of 20 FTs. Now that was an off day. The final score had nothing to do with the reality of the game. Inspite of how much of an off day WE WERE HAVING, we were down by 5 with 9 minutes to go. The fouling at the end only padded ther score as they made every shot. I think our effort was very good, good hustle, but missed free throws, bunnies and bad fouls keep us out of range. The one very positive was the breakout of Jay Harris. Finally we saw the shooter we thought we were getting. With a foul shooter like that it will be difficult to keep him out of the lineup. Lets face it, this game was a huge challenge. Perhaps a bigger challenge will be to beat CSU on the 9th. Glad we heard from rink again. Haven't heard from him since his praise for the fine wins over IPFW and Oakland--oh wait, that couldn't have been rink, that would have been too supportive. Oh well...

There was 10 minutes and 32 seconds of game time that Butler did not have greater than a 10 point lead, the majority of that being much greater. As for the free throws, shooting at a season average clip of 73.9% yields an expected 14.78 points. Are you really going with the +4.22 over expectation, from the line, as your rationale? Valpo hit 10 3s and lost by 17 points. Being a passionate fan is one thing, but being utterly irrational is another thing entirely. The teams are not remotely close.

That's the way I was taught to play defense. I didn't see anything he was doing that was over the top....i know the rules have been changed since I was a kid to say keep you hands off, but that's almost impossible to do. Good defenders "touch" you and Nored is a good defender. I am much more concerned with the Marshall kid jumping on people's backs for rebounds...but then we had a few of those too. Overall I thought the officiating was as good as it gets in the Horizon. No real complaints....we just have to hit free throws...it would have made it a much closer game.
