Now *this* was a poorly officiated game. I swear the zebras must have thought they were doing the football game at Soldier's Field. All the pushing, elbowing, clutching, grabbing, and only 5 fouls called the first 12+ minutes.
One of the Green Bay guards took about 5 steps through the lane in the first half (after he picked up the dribble) and he either got the layup or they called a foul. I was absolutely beside myself. Could not believe there wasn't a double foul when Cam Witt had one arm locked up with his defender and grabbed the rebound with his other arm.
I chalk this one up to missed layups and injuries that reduced the rotation to about 6 or maybe 7 in a game that started less than 40 hours after the last one ended. Ya gotta persevere in the face of buffoonish refs, thuggish opponents (I recall one possession where their point guard literally elbowed Buggs all the way down the court as the GB guard brought the ball up), and exhaustion, but really, I find it hard to be overly critical. GB's bench is deeper, and the officiating played into their style, plus they shot better than Milwaukee did.
Considering how short handed we were, GB should have blown us out of the gym. It shouldn't even have been close.
Very disappointing turnout, but I think anyone who thought they were solving the NFL problem by moving the start time back to noon might be suffering delusions. Hardcore NFL fans start gearing up for a playoff game an hour or so before kickoff, if not sooner. I think it might have been smarter to play in the evening, if you wanted to increase the crowd size.
I'm disappointed that we're 7-2 instead of 8-1, of course. And I'm concerned about the injury status of several players. This could ruin a marvelous season. But it's far from the end of the world.

Someone mentioned they thought the camera for the scoreboard clock had to be ordered from China...Is it then ironic that the Chinese president was in Chicago this week? No, that was a very intentional part of my statement. I just didn't finish the statement.

All the pushing, elbowing, clutching, grabbing, and only 5 fouls called the first 12+ minutes. There was definitely a lack of consistency. With the difference in calls, it seemed like different crews officiated each half. Hate to say this, but one of our students was a real jerk to the guys, even more than any crew can deserve. He got right in their faces after the game, bless them for just walking by. One of my friends who works security had to break up a scuffle he got in. Hopefully we can be more "gracious" to both the refs and the opponents Saturday.

The refs certainly didn't win or lose this game either way. They let the guys play and Green Bay is defenitely more physical than we are for the most part.....There were some missed calls, but there some both ways, so I think it evens out. The only one I didn't understand was when number 11 for GB through what looked like a punch at Kenney and all the official did was step between them. He was taken out immediately by his coach which I applaud, but I thought that was supposed to be an automatic T....oh well

From what I saw, that 9 minute stretch of not scoring was the key to our loss. Even with Wood out, someone needs to step up - offensive rebound put back, drive and dish, set a screen, something - to change the momentum. Looking at the box score, our 2-pt FG% was also really poor: 41% compared to season average of 55%. A few 2's, especially during that stretch, could have been the difference. I do like how we did not give up towards the end. It was still a 7 point game with about 1 minute to go, and we made a game of it.
If someone had told us we would be in a tie for first place after the first half of Horizon League play, that we would have four road wins (out of 5 games), and that we were competitve in our only home loss (due to injuries), how many here would have taken that up front? A very good start to what is shaping up to be one of our best seasons, power rankings-wise.
Get healthy and BEAT BUTLER!

The most definitive version was... from one of the post-game press conferences? With someone, maybe Mark Lazerus, asking questions for a piece than then showed up in the Post Tribune.
It was Thursday practice, ahead of the Friday game. Practicing fast breaks, and he hurt his hamstring.
The MRI showed it was "just inflammation"? (That came out later.)

Can someone enlighten me on Wood's imjury. What happend? It has been quoted as a hamstring injury, but I don't know when he injured it. Hamstrings can sometimes take awhile to heal.

Thanks valpospartan nice to know he has some fans. He is a great young man and will always give his all for the team. Yes those Inspector Gadget arms do help Mum, he has more than just a few fans! Count me as one. Ryan is a well rounded team player who can do it all. I said earlier this season that I thought he would have a break out year and I think he proved on Sunday that he is one of our "go to" guys. We pray that Ryan, Brandon, Jay and Kevin all have healing over this week.

Is there an aussiecrusadermum Valpo visit planned for this season? I still remember you saying you enjoyed your visit last year, liked the people you met, and other good stuff a local like me appreciates hearing...

Just to clear up something. Some of our word meanings are different to yours and I have heard that the term "partner" in America is different in meaning to "partner" in Australia. So yes I am coming with my partner Kevin, son Dan and we are very much looking forward to it. Go Valpo!!!
