Time to hold serve at home to set up the game we've all been talking about! Milwaukee is a very erratic team. What scares me the most is that they just had one of their games at home against Loyola. That combined with our new found status as top dog in the HL makes me think Milwaukee will come out and play one of their games. I hope we are able to handle them even if that's the case. My birthday is on Thursday so anything other than a Valpo win will ruin it for me (and nobody deserves to have their birthday ruined . I will be at the ARC to catch my first home game of the year, and am very much looking forward to it. Go Valpo!

How wacky has the season been for the Panthers? Through their first 18 games, they averaged 80 points in their nine wins and 50 points in their nine losses. Despite their pedestrian 9-10 record, they've had seven different players score at least 15 points in a different game this season ... and every team on the schedule was a D-1 school. When scoring at least 37 points by the half, the Panthers have won every game (7-0). When scoring fewer than 27, the Panthers have lost every game (0-5). In fact, they have won only twice when scoring 36 or fewer points by the intermission -- against Bowling Green on Dec. 18 (35) and at Detroit on Jan. 1 (28). If the Panthers have 50 points by the 15-minute mark of the second half, they win. If they don't, they lose. Paging Dr. Van Nostrand to the black courtesy phone. Dr. Martin Van Nostrand.

The biggest key is for Valpo to play their game, and to play defense the way they have since beating Oakland. Their defense has been stifling to all except Butler. Play defense, beat Milwaukee.

Remember after playing good DEFENSE most of the game unless you are way out in front you must also hit the FT's given to you by the opposition fouling you. In my opinion since the Crusaders are playing good defense regularly since the Oakland game they still must improve their FT percentage to win the games that will be close and this team as a whole has not improved their FT percentage enough yet. I do believe that will still happen and #1 seed in the HL Tourney is not out of the question and closer to a 50/50 chance then 10/90 chance (10 being Valpo's chances of seed #1)

It's definitely been an achilles' heel for us this season, but having read the Post Trib article about it, there's nothing more that can be done in that department other than doing what they're doing, which is shooting a LOT of free throws, and in different situations including when physically tired after practices.

Milwaukee ranks 326th among the nation's 347 teams in free-throw percentage (60.1).
Put the Panthers at the free-throw line; that's the best way to defend them.
If they're hitting their open looks (and with their spacing, they'll get plenty of them), they're impossible to defend (ask Marquette, Detroit or Butler).

I've told you about what I saw at practice last week with Buggs, I don't believe the other guys aren't being worked with also. No one is happy with our FT percentage, but it's not because they aren't working on it.

I assume they work quite a bit on their FT's. I remember many times where Dan Oppland, Raitis Grafs, Stalin Ortiz, etc, would be in the gym after practice was over trying to improve their FT% while I ran on the track above. I really can't see scholarship players not trying to better themselves in this way like the players before them.

Drumroll please..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................my prediction for the Milwaukee game is Milwaukee 71 Valpo 73 Valpo pulls it out by hitting just enough FT's at the end of a game that Valpo leads by 14 in the 2nd half but loses ground due to mistakes made trying to run off the clock. But a win is a win and every win in conference counts.

There's no way to predict a Milwaukee game this season.
And there's no point in even trying.
That's why I've taken to calling them the Milwaukee Manics.
