I don't want this thread to die without giving Michael Rogers his due. It was great to see his performance return to what we grew to expect last year. We didn't see his outside shot, but his vitality around the basket and on defense was a pleasure to behold.

Would love to see some video from last nights press conference. Might provide further insight into some of the injury situation and also the lousy refereeing from last nights game. Will something be put up on YouTube?

I called the Rogers charge 2 seconds before he ran the guy over, if that's the play you're wondering about.

Good for you that you called a charge before anything happened. The call needs to be made based on what DID happen, which was not a charge.

I got on to him about one play that I see regularly from him and see an area for improvement. On both offense & defense Rogers played extremely well. He sure was in the right offensive position at the right time many times down the court. Now lets do the same to Green Bay on Sunday!

I don't know how a Valpo fan could dislike this game. Get out to a 24-6 lead with strong defensive intensity / solid rebounding, and never be threatened by Milw. the rest of the way, even with two key players out of the lineup. Milw. didn't make a basket for the first 13 minutes of the game! Rogers was a force in the paint (a far cry from when he looked lost in December). Kenney, Johnson, and Little were all-around solid.
FTs weren't good, but they didn't need to be when the overall ball movement and defense more than made up for it.
Oh, and no one mentioned the two emphatic dunks. Johnson's was like a classic Dan Majerle throwdown!

What was the name of the referee that gave Valpo Bench the technical last night? I had never seen him before at Valpo and I do not even know why he called it.

Chris Beaver has called 5 Valpo games in the last two weeks. Does anybody find this incredibly strange? On another subject Mike Rogers has been very good the last month, and last night he took advantage of increased playing time. On a final subject, I too thought Rogers could be heading for a charge as he headed full speed down court, but then when he made a great move to go around Williams and Williams slide into him it was an obvious block and three point play. When Chris Beaver called the charge, I was sure Beaver has called too many Valpo games over the past two weeks.

The technical was called by Archibald Whaley.

Mike made a decision and executed that decision as flawlessly as possable. However was it the right decision? What he saw was a freight train barrelling down the floor at maximun speed in a 1 on 3 almost 1 on 4 situation. The fact that Mike pulled it off is almost beside the point because had he missed it would have likely resulted in a UWM rebound and break. As a matter of principle and all else being equal the ref will always give the edge to the defender in that situation.

All I was saying that I called the charge before he did it, and I just had a feeling that the ref was thinking the same thing. The call did not surprise me, but I realize it was probably wrong. It was obviously an anticipation call. It had no bearing on the ultimate outcome of the game. Rogers had an excellent game last night, and it came at the right time. Also good to see Matt Kenney have a fine all-around game. Overall, it really has been quite a team effort the past 4-5 games.

Absolutely. Team has beaten some solid Horizon League teams by double digits in last 3 games. Like many people I had slotted Valpo for 4th or 5th. Could still happen given the grouping of teams with 2 losses, but I think we're rolling. #2 seed is a huge factor not only because of the double bye but because your semis opponent will have played just 24 hours prior.

Homer drew (no pun intended) a tech in the second half, but I'm not sure what for. I know the shooter had four free throw shots, and he made a couple, but I don't know why Homer drew the T? My guess: the ref who gave it to him has Joe West's disease (either, "the show is about me, not the players" or "I cannot bear a cross word from anybody"). All Homer did was stomp his foot and the guy T-ed him up. I thought it was pathetic, and I don't think Homer tried to get it.

pretty sure homer was correct in his argument pre-tech. looked like it should have been a charge to me. but i also liked the camera behind the basket. my first thought was 'woah-when did that happen?' It really seemed that the ref T'd up Homer was particularly egregious in the balance of his calls. And very thin-skinned, too. Itchy trigger finger.
