Homer has gotten a couple of T's this year. I really wonder what he says to them to get rung up. I know how strict he is about inappropriate language that I can't imagine anything really offensive coming out of his mouth. I have been with him when he has "fined" himself for using a mild cuss word. Maybe he will be running lines today with the boys. Does anybody have any insight as to what was said?

1. Outside of a couple of really bad calls, I thought the officiating was fine last night. 2. Turnovers were a little on the high side (13), but otherwise, I thought VU played a great game, offensively and defensively. There were some lapses that need to be improved upon, and good teams always aspire to improve, so I think the critical points made here are reasonable. On the other hand, it's hard to see how anyone could come away from that game feeling down. That was a major clamp-down, albeit short-handed. 3. Having said that, it is also true that the Panthers definitely did not bring their A-game. I understand there was a lid on their basket practically all night long (I remember one 3-pointer literally going half-way through the basket and then unbelievably bouncing back out again. They could not throw the ball in the ocean, except for Tony Meier. 4. If you want to be pissed about something, make it the atmosphere, which was definitely less than stellar. I know VHS played (at home, I guess?), and there are perfectly valid reasons for people to choose other activities. I'm just saying that it is disheartening to see so many seats empty for a 1st place team. 5. I'll reserve my most pointed critique for whoever planned the pregame festivities. How do you put some kind of dance team out there performing and holding everyone's attention (more importantly shutting out the pep band) while your team is returning to the court for it's final warmups? ?? Somebody dropped the ball there. By the time they finally broke into the fight song, everybody had already had 2 or 3 turns at the layup. 6. I was jazzed to see Kenney starting because I thought he'd earned it by now, until they announced Rowdy as a guard. I looked -- no BWood. I don't remember feeling any kind of panic for some reason, but I was greatly concerned. Seeing Rowdy go down early increased my concern. Under the circumstances, I thought Cameron Witt did a nice job of filling the hole. Also, Mike Rogers has been playing well lately, compared to earlier in his career. I can still remember games where he didn't seem to have a clue. 7. I think it is also noteworthy that I can't remember the last time this team built a significant lead and then let it evaporate. That isn't happening any more. Not to say it will never happen again, but I think this team is maturing in that regard. GO CRUSADERS, then GO BEARS! Make it a double-header win.

There may be good reasons why the league has gone to alternating Thu-Sat Fri-Sun games, but the Fri-Sun games have been a real bust for us. ---The population in the Valpo area simply isn't big enough to support simultaneous athletic events. VU draws fans not only from the city of Valpo, but Chesterton, East Porter school system, Wheeler, Boone Grove, Hebron, and some from Lake and LaPorte Counties. The big high school basketball night in this area is Friday night and as long as we continue to play on Friday's there will continue to be multiple conflicts. ---Sunday games have built-in conflicts with multiple NFL TV games again people have to choose one over the other. ---Last but not least, Fri-Sun games force everyone to plan their entire weekend around VU basketball. Thu-Sat just makes a lot more sense IMO.

Could not agree more. Have missed viewing all Friday games live because of high school games. At least I can keep up with the scores on ESPN mobile.

Would love to see some video from last nights press conference. Might provide further insight into some of the injury situation and also the lousy refereeing from last nights game. Will something be put up on YouTube? Here you go:

The Friday games this month is because everyone wants Butler on TV....since we are their travel partner, we have to play the same days they do. I don't think this continues for the rest of the season, and since they will not be the darlings of the country as much in the future, probably has just been an abberation this year.

- Valpo's defense was flat out ridiculous. Buggs may not pose much of a threat on offense, but his defense make him worth the minutes.
- The technical on Homer made a lousy call even worse. Surely the ref knew he screwed up, but to give Homer a technical when he was a foot from his chair was abysmal. He was on the opposite side of the court, and with all the booing from the crowd, I'm surprised the ref could understand what Homer yelled.
- The student section was fairly pathetic. I'm hoping I can attribute some of it to battle of the bands... not quite sure of the attendance of that. Even the pep band seemed a bit smaller that usual. Maybe it was because it was blisteringly cold outside? Even with the attendance issue, the section was quiet and disorganized. Four years ago I remember the section being led by one legit guy who started chants, but still let the crowd freelance into their own cheers.
- Valpo hired students to wear GREEN SHIRTS to be student section leaders. They don't really do anything, and the green shirts must look awfully confusing to opposing fans (watching on TV). While I agree with the citrus for publications, it's not used as an athletic color. Maybe in the future it might be worked in (women's volleyball?) but not now. I guess it isn't much better than selling YELLOW SHIRTS, which also isn't one of our athletics colors. The yellow looks terrible, especially when next to a gold shirt. While the gold shirt may be a little bit too gold for their official color, the yellow is very far from correct. Think U of Michigan yellow. To make things worse, they handed out fliers that said they were going to have a free exchange of an old Valpo shirt with a new one. I can't believe with how strict IMC has been in official colors (rightfully show) they let this slip through them.
- There were more students on the corner section than usual. I think a fraternity was having a rush event held at the arc, because they showed up wearing their fraternity letters (no Valpo gear, go figure). They did cheer occasionally, but it was only for the mascot, who presumably is a member of their fraternity. They also would cheer when the cheerleaders would walk by. Maybe a girlfriend of one? I glanced over there mid-game, and they weren't even looking at the court. They were either looking at each other, or staring at the student section. Really reminded me of a high school football game. While they're showing more support than people who didn't show up at all, they're still having the same effect on the game. Absolutely none. Watch the game and cheer for the team, or stay at home and drink with your brothers.
- Go Packers.

Thanks, would have loved to hear Eric talk about his defensive effort this year. Hope someone can ask him about that in a later interview. Of course he could talk about his FT percentage AND what he is doing lately to improve it by hitting 3 of 4 FT's in the WSU & Milw games. That's what I think would be most interesting for a team that still has a FT shooting weakness.

Yea...VU's first year in the Horizon, with the Rewards Program and respected student section leaders, the student section was routinely packed, and cohesively leading good chants. Not really the case anymore, which is a disappointment. I can definitely echo the fact that some fraternity members and even football players think they are too above the average student to be in the student section, which definitely doesn't help the make-up of the crowd. However, Valpo keeps winning, the days are getting longer, and there WILL be a lot of students at the Butler game, which will hopefully get people excited into February.

Hell, the football players shouldn't be permitted in the ARC. That place is for winners (except Keith),not losers.

Milwaukee just won at Butler 86-80 in overtime. It's shaping up to be a good day for Wisconsin.
