Best Valpo game I've watched since March of 1998. Offense played great, defense played great, the crowd was legit, we beat down a top MVC team, and Vitale was adding electric energy to the whole thing on a national stage. Wow, awesome.

Congrats to the Team, Coaching Staff, AD and the people who work the games, terrific atmosphere came through on TV.

What a fun game! Good contributions from all of the players. Once again, Rowdy was quiet in the scoring column, but he was loud with his rebounds and defense. A marquee performance on a large stage!

Having seen the game both in person and on ESPN3, I want to put in my 2 cents on the day... - First row of the student section=lots of camera time! 10-odd close-ups and dozens of other wide shots where I saw myself. Fun
- My roommate got a close-up on the drum set, which had a Dickie V. pic on it. Dick referred him on the air as "the guy beating my head" lol
- First reference to Bryce Drew, they had the camera on Chris Sparks. Epic Fail
- To anyone playing the over/under on Vitale Duke references, I caught one during the talk about MO ST's 1999 Sweet 16 team
Most importantly, a great game all-around for VU with the obvious exception of free throws. They always seemed in control, especially after their 18-4 late in the first half. Looking forward to see how they close a hellish week of action. GB next! Get excited!

“I looked at this game as our conference vs. their conference,” said Valparaiso’s Brandon Wood, who led his team with 24 points. In that case, score a big one for the Horizon League over the Valley. “I wanted their conference to feel it from the top to the bottom,” Wood said, smiling. You don't suppose the fact that Brandon transfered from SIU-Carbondale, a member of the Missouri Valley, closer to the bottom than top had anything to do with the "feel it from the top (MO State) to the bottom (SIU-C)" comment? Do you? :-) SIU-C was one of the only Missouri Valley members to win a bracketbuster game as they beat our next opponent, Green Bay, 61-60 on a last second shot. Bradley beat Tenn-Martin of the Ohio Valley Conference and Drake beat Horizon League member, Detroit 82-74 in Des Moines. The only MVC members to win were all 7th place or lower so the MVC didn't exactly feel it that much "at the bottom." Of the three direct games between the MVC and the Horizon Valpo was the only winner as both Detroit and Green Bay lost to Drake and SIU-C respectively.

Hope the Mascot gets lost on way to ARC. It would be embarrassing if that thing was shown on TV. I believe the mascot might have gotten the biggest close up next to members of the student section in the front row. If you were hoping the Crusader's face wouldn't be seen on ESPN your worst fears certainly were realized. It was like staring into the great abyss of the universe. Just kidding.

By the way I thought Dick Vitale did a great job along with Dave O'Brien. They both certainly did their homework and it showed in the broadcast. There wasn't too much that the duo got wrong except O'Brien said that Valpo had 5,000 students. A very well done national broadcast from the ARC and a great way for Valpo to be showcased to the sports world.

I thought they were very well-prepared (to what extent they actually did on their own, who knows). Also, sitting watching the game, I couldn't help but notice that it was actually in HD...not with the bars on the side of the screen. Most times, mid-major games are shown with the bars (though it looked like most of the BB games today were in real HD), but I thought the arena looked great.

I think O'Brien was including undergrad, grad, law, and commuter undergrads in that 5,000 students, which would be about right.

The energy was awesome, the students were loud, and O'Brien and Vitale didn't spend the entire game talking about other conferences, unlike the 5 mins that we had to watch Rutgers-Syracuse spend in huddles for timeouts in the closing seconds of regulation.

There was a little vitrol in Brandon's statement...and if you know the story...it was awesome. The look on his face as he said it was priceless. I think he might have wanted this game more than any other he's played.
