There was a little vitrol in Brandon's statement...and if you know the story...it was awesome. The look on his face as he said it was priceless. I think he might have wanted this game more than any other he's played. I sure hope Brandon can bring all that energy against the team that just lost to the C-dale Dogs (what the other Southern Illinois towns call them because their high school team is the Carbondale Terriers) on a last second shot because that is the game that really really counts for Valpo. Let's beat Green Bay!!!

By the way I thought Dick Vitale did a great job along with Dave O'Brien. They both certainly did their homework and it showed in the broadcast. There wasn't too much that the duo got wrong except O'Brien said that Valpo had 5,000 students. A very well done national broadcast from the ARC and a great way for Valpo to be showcased to the sports world. I think O'Brien was including undergrad, grad, law, and commuter undergrads in that 5,000 students, which would be about right. per the valpo admissions page, our enrollment is listed at about 4100, with about 3100 of that being undergrads. but overall, i was rather impressed by the pair-they stayed on point pretty well (aside from the random tangent into the american league east).

I also thought the question O'Brien asked late in the game was a good discussion point. With the way Valpo played, O'Brien asked Dickie V if Valpo was the best coached team this season as compared to the top 25. He couldn't pin Dickie V down on that one but it caught him off guard and he didn't start with a monologue on K. He said there were some good ones in that group but never answered the question directly. This season this team is playing on the same page very often. BTW, at the half, Dickie V talked to Todd offline and said that Brandon Wood can flat out play and that the ARC was a great place. It's hard to believe he's never done a game in a venue of 5000 or less.

And something for you folks who will be at the game... get ready for a spectacular new Player Introduction "song..." never been done before and we actually practiced it on Thursday afternoon...does that pique your interest??? Unfortunately it will not be live on the Deuce...we have to have it done before airtime. I really liked the drum line -- much better than music blasting through the speakers. Is the plan to continue to use it?

Did I hear Dick V say "Digger never found his way from South Bend to Valpo (or Purdue) to play"? That is clearly not true. Did I hear that wrong?

Based strictly on watching yesterday's game, I would not have thought MSU is a particulary strong defensive team. Apparently they are. Our 80 points is the second highest point total they have given up this year, and more than any of their 16 conference game opponents have scored.

The DrumLine Game opener will be repeated with the UIC -Senior Night game on 2/24... 7:05 tip...I heard a lot of nice comments about it...That's also family day... 4 tickets for $20...more options on the valpoathletics.com site...
We need to come up with a reason for folks to come out on Thursday...other than the obvious "like we need the crowd!!"

Any chance there will be a recording of the drumline from yesterday?

Must have forgotten the 1988 game when LaPhonso Ellis and Notre Dame came to the ARC and left with an overtime loss (coached by Digger Phelps).

Does anyone know what Vegas had the line at??? We ended winning by 13 even though the game was much further out of reach than that....

Go to www.news-leader.com/ to read the sports report in Springfield, and then read the comments at the end. There are certainly some *very unhappy fans in downstate MO!
