Oh, and before anyone corrects me, I know Cleveland State won from the 3 spot. That was a miracle equivalent to turning water into wine - and that only happened once. We're just another also-ran at this point. That was no miracle. That was a great CSU team that underachieved in the regular season. Picked to win the HL regular season and whipped Wake Forest in the Tournament. No divine intervention needed.

We're just another also-ran at this point. That was no miracle. That was a great CSU team that underachieved in the regular season. Picked to win the HL regular season and whipped Wake Forest in the Tournament. No divine intervention needed. They played 2 knock-down-drag-out games to get to the semi-finals, then played a 3rd game and beat a completely fresh team in the semis on Butler's court, and amazingly won a 4th game against another fresh team (again on Butler's court)to win the tournament. The deck is completely stacked to keep that very thing from ever happening, yet to CSU's credit (and to the shame of the fresh-legged teams they beat), they somehow made it happen. Call it whatever you want, but it was an amazing accomplishment that will not be repeated for years to come. The only sad thing is it gives a lot of 3-10 teams false hope every year.

OK. The fact is you lost to a very bad defensive team in GB....... they made you guys look even better than you played. But, Valpo is still one of the top 3 teams in the league, and I think you knew all along that you would have to win the Ho League tournament to get in the dance. Don't jump ship yet! Haven't seen the stats yet but let me point out the obvious. We have lost twice to Green Bay for much the same reason. With Brown in the game no matter what their defense, our production from interior passing and dribble penetration comes to a grinding halt. In many of our games we have generated 12 to 18 points of reverse lay-ups in the half court by Cory, Matt, Brandon and especially Howard. Tonight what did we have? Probably 6 at most. So we took more outside shots, which they also defended pretty well. That and very few fast-break points (Brown again a factor in rebounding); helped leed to this loss. All I know about the Green Bay defense is what I have seen in these 2 losses, and from that I must conclude that they shut down an important part of what we like to do. I would have to study the tape to confirm but I would guess that much of this was just good preparation and coaching. Maybe that is why they lost at SIU? They were busy with other matters.

Stop being so level-headed StL. Actually, I'm just as bad deep down inside, only my tendency is to be protective and blame the refs or the trash the other coach or their fans ... and just generally flail at all the mean people in the world that are unfairly keeping my heroes down. Seriously, I kinda wonder if some of us are afraid that this might be our only chance to win the HL and we see it slipping away (it pretty much has, unless some really weird things happen this weekend -- and there's no reason the weirdness has to avoid Valpo, either). I would hope that we haven't concluded that we'll never get this close again. I'd hate to think the Crusaders are like my White Sox I think they're on the rise. I'm not saying they're going to become the Yankees of the HL ever, but I don't believe this is the last chance we'll have to do this.

Actually, I think this is only the beginning of our journey in the Horizon League, and that with what is coming back and what we have coming in, we'll be even better next year. Let's face it, we have some serious problems on this team, as has been well documented....but damn they have been fun to watch. The season isn't over yet...two games to go and then who knows....i love this team and I love these guys....I said they'd be fun to watch in the preseason, and they certainly haven't changed my mind. I don't expect Milwaukee to beat Cleveland State at Cleveland, but we can't worry about that now...we need to win our last two, and then play whenever and whereever we are scheduled. and for those who are down on Cory, without him we wouldn't be this close, so get off him. He had a bad game, so did Michael Jordan from time to time. As Thad Matta said after being asked if he was surprised so many top ranked teams had lost, and his team had lost 2 of their last 3....."it's college basketball"

Win out, and it takes: Butler losing to Loyola, Milwaukee splitting or being swept, and CSU splitting or being swept, and we're still #1. Not all that likely, I agree. The way this year has gone you never know. It would be a great time for Butler to lose their way again especially against Loyola who was the last team to beat them in a conference game at Hinkle in 2008-09 before the Bulldogs went 18-0 in 2009-10. The need for Milwaukee and CSU to split would seem a bit far fetched but not impossible. Valpo winning at home against the Chicago teams is not far fetched. Stranger things have happened. First things first. Valpo must win their next 2 games.

With this loss, at this point, VU will essentially have to put together either a four or more likely six game run in order to get to the NCAA's. Not likely when you're 6-4 in your last ten games. It is what it is.
"FINI"

I agree 100 percent with you. The current tournament is set up to get the best team into the tournament, and it takes away from the its anyone's game feeling that the tournament should provide. I've always liked the first seed hosting the tournament, but if I was making the decisions I would do away with the double bye.

With "little" left to play for, I think the Loyola game will end up in a loss and essentially a fourth place finish in the HL. Sad today.
